a strange philosphy of the anti fashion fashionable of 1993

the 80s?

god, that was soooooo 10 years ago....
what?
have i stopped making sense?

maybe, but not in this sense, beacause, my current obsession is the '90s;this generaly consisting of me dancing around and making very serious faces to BritPop lovlies of 'Pulp' and 'Blur', petitoning against the cancelling of 'Friends' on channel 4, (how could you!), and debating whether i could acid-wash my mums 1992 denim shirt, and wear it without her knowing, and debating whether i could actually wear that with jeans, and then debating whether to roll the jeans up, and other further debates that go on and on and on.

and then, magically, the rambling paragraph above has bridged me onto what we all really want to talk about:

fashion.

(1995)
ok, so the '90s in the couture stakes has a pretty bad reputation, because, being humans, we always sem to pessimisticly remember the bad things rather than the fabulousness-maybe an irony to this, it being a '90s, but i'll get onto that later.its been called and dubbed, time and time again, 'the age fashion forgot'. well, i think thats terribly and utterly contadictory, beacuse surley whats on the catwalks and what peopel wear is fashion, even if it was the eqivalent of a cats regergetated felix, its still fashion. it was the age when the 'in vogue' colour was 'olive -green', catsuits where red and PVC, and shoes clunky heels weighed about 10stone.'anti-fashion' was fashionable-maybe because people had had enough of the phony glitz and glam of the 80s, maybe as pop cultures polite nod to feminism, maybe because people didnt have enough pennies in there pockets. or maybe it just was.
so, onto my 3 fashion icons of the 90s:

we had bjork, the fabulously eccentric leader of the sugarcubes, with her outrageously 90s outrageously fabulous style:

we had the fresh faced Miss. Kate Moss, with her un-deniable a la 90s andrognous beauty, but who arguably started the 'heroin chic' trend:very skinny, circles under eyes and a vampiric pallor.

and lastly, i say kurt cobain. the rebellious, grungy, un-kept symbol of the 'drugged up, cut-up teens'

so....the 90s. a place and time of many parallels, so modern, yet so undeniably back. tragic, bright, neon, scrunchies, feminism, latex.

it smelled like teen spirit.

we told you what we wanted (what we really really wanted)

and they wanted to live like the common people.

organza silk, lacey things, lyall hakaraia

fantasy, magic, .tull ripped, tutus, frizzy, starched,
and lace.lots and lots of lace.
and the colour
white
though, i know things like 'sport-luxe', 'militaria', even wooden shoes have been flying around
(even vogue telling us to wear jogging bottoms)
i feel like these are a bit too practical for me, a bit too much like i can wear them in the street.

(marc jacobs s/s10)
and though sometimes i may rave about these endlessley and constantly any-other time of the year, it is raining, it is not spring and everything seems a bit boring, like it needs some magic.
i have spent, since early 2009, waiting for the release of
'alice in wonderland'
by the genuis who i'm not even going to bother naming, and if u don't know, well shame on you.

(alexander mcqueen)
and my insporation, is quite otherworldy too.
think alabaster skin, lace, organza silk, a pale sumptous mix.
light, heavy,lacey.
white. lots of white.and, another name:

lyall hakaria (above image)

au revoir, english hooligan of fashion

a genuis has died.a fashion genuis.
an enigma.the english hooligan of fashion. Mr Alexander McQueen.

incredibly, unexplainlbly, inspiring-ly, ponder worthy beautiful . the kind of which you stare at , and think by some weird existance this brain is not human, these clothes can not come out of a persons mind.

grotesque, yet strangley human/ in-human justifiable?
in the weirest of macabre, strange ways, so realtable. like, some form of strange, beautiful floating peice of philisophical clothes nothingness/ somethingness.

awing, oh god,so awing. drop down mouth awing.like a brick made of 50kg of silk dropped in your pleased mouth.

clothes of which i have ever seen.

definite and absloute peices of artwork, the imagination of un-epressable in-expressable no-bounds.

contreversial, yes, but the world of fashion will not seem the same without fabulous Mr Mcqueen.

a legacy has been left.a legacy that consisted of rubbish tips, 12 inch shoes, glitter lights, and spotlights.a legacy of the simple but inspiring break down of the normal.

and yes i may weep, but we must celebrate it.

au revoir, 'english hooligan of fashion'

again? no, we need the grotesquely beautiful

as i sat there yestreday, with my crumpled yellow '70s animal print scarf, my legs crossed in a near perfect lotus, boredem drove me to look at a month-or 2??-old vogue.

and i flicked through it. flicked and flicked. flicked and looked again at the christopher kanes and thinking how my nan would raise her eyes at the lingerine trend, i came to the last page, the one after all the weird adverts

about houses in paris and nose jobs.

it rambled on about something i didnt really think about on first reading, but something thats struck something in my inner shamisen.

it read something about how designers were, in this time of receesion, fleeting to there old designs, there glory days.

a safety cushion, and im sure many will disgaree, a bit of a cop-out.

now, im all for retro, anything from a pearly, sequined flapper dress to a good old 1830s leg'o'mutton sleeve., but if this really is true, i am worried.for these safety cushions were once new and exciting, diffrent, shocking as a tabloid scandal, but if reapeated, will become as drab as monday. they'll rip up like primark tights and be forgotten, and befor long your old aunt haricinth will be wearing them.

we need fireworks.

contreverasry.

something that makes you go

'ewwwww' 'ahhhhhh'' gorgeous'

depending on who see's it. something if anyone not on a cat walk wearing it will be strangley admired and be plaugued by papparazi.

we need something grotesuley, amazingly beautiful

we need avante, garde, darrling.

zee avant garde designs that i seem to remember:

the pac-man head, Giles DEacon

them shoes,alexander Mcqueen

mr galliano,i cant explain these, please help.

the bunny ears, vuitton

and lastly, more mcqueen

dark scary beautiful things inspired by vampiric victorain novelists

latley, she who has been writing has been fascinated by gothic victoriana-bram stoker's dracula, oscar wilde, lord byron.

and as i reading with fascination of the selling of souls for beauty, and considred the irony, i thought of fashion, .. fashion is not all pink bugglegum of frou frou.

fashion can be daregrous, dark and shocking, like these novels. and fashion can be of course, obviously inspired by victoraian

dark frill, ruffles,lace-great smudgings of eyeliner, masks 'a la phantom of the opera. seductive yet frightneing-here is what i am talking about.
